Gulaabi Aankhein

A classic Rafi tune: short, sweet, leaving you wanting more. The rhythm: reminiscent of a moving train - an inspiration RD Burman used in many of his compositions. *Imagines a young Shammi Kapoor on an actual train, leaning far out of a compartment, crooning this number after spotting a beauty out the window... sigh (if you are like me, the actual video that's floating around on youtube will disappoint, skip that and watch the full version of Main Jatt Yamla from Pratiggya instead for a Rafi fix, lol). If you love this original, and your mind is open to new interpretation, try Sonu Nigam's cover performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on the album Rafi Resurrected. The orchestra has done a phenomenal job on that album. Curiously he changes some of the lyrics: "kya karun main dilruba" and "bura hai jaadu" instead of the original below.

Film:
The Train
Singer: Rafi
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
MD: Rahul Dev Burman

Gulaabi Aankhein , Jo Teri Dekhi, Sharaabi Yeh Dil Ho Gaya
Sambhalo Mujhko, Oh Mere Yaaro, Sambhalna Mushkil Ho Gaya

Dil Mein Mere, Khwaab Tere, Tasveerein Jaise Ho Deewaar Pe
Tujh Pe Fidah, Main Kyun Hua? Aata Hai Ghussa Mujhe Pyar Pe
Main Loot Gaya, Maan Ke Dil Ka Kaha, Main Kehin Ka Na Raha
Kya Kahun Main Dilruba?
Bura Yeh Jaadu, Teri Aankhon Ka, Yeh Mera Kaatil Ho Gaya
Gulaabi Aankhein, Jo Teri Dekhi, Sharaabi Yeh Dil Ho Gaya

Maine Sada Chaha Yehi: Damand Bacha Loon Haseeno Se Main
Teri Kasam, Khwaabon Mein Bhi, Bachta Phira Nazneenon Se Main
Tauba, Magar, Mil Gayee Tujh Se Nazar, Mil Gaya Dard-e-Jigar
Sun Zara O Bekhabar
Zara Sa Has Ke Jo Dekha Tu Ne, Main Tera Bismil Ho Gaya
Gulaabi Aankhein , Jo Teri Dekhi, Sharaabi Yeh Dil Ho Gaya
Sambhalo Mujhko, Oh Mere Yaaro, Sambhalna Mushkil Ho Gaya
